Another homicide in Richmond

Police are investigating the sixth homicide of the year in this Eastern Indiana city.

Lt. Jon Bales told News Center 7 that police and medics were called out late Saturday night to an alley between South 11th and South 10th Streets for an unresponsive male on a picnic table. On arrival, medics determined the man was dead. He had a deep cut in his neck.  

Police found a blood trail which led back to an apartment building at 113 South 10th. They obtained a search warrant, and recovered some evidence from the building. Bales said the murder weapon was not recovered.

"It's been a very busy year for us. Six homicides is very uncommon and well above our average, said Lt. Bales. "Our detectives have been very burdened with serious cases this year."

Police find unusual pet in yard in Troy

A person walking late Saturday night in the 100 block of Southview Drive spotted something alive in a yard.  The walker thought it might be a snake.

When Troy police arrived, they discovered it was a three-to-four foot alligator.  Officers believe it was a pet which either got loose or was let loose.

They rounded up the gator, and turned it over to two individuals who are reptile-handling experts.  They will try to make sure it ends up with a  responsible owner. 

No one was hurt. But a neighbor told NewsCenter 7's Northern Bureau Chief Steve Baker, “my wife wants to move NOW!”

"In my career that spans back to mid February of 1970, this is only the third story I have covered that involved a baby alligator found on the 'run'."

Boy hit after running in front of car

A five-year-old boy is being treated at Springfield Regional Medical Center after an accident  Saturday night in a shopping center parking lot at 2978 Derr Road. 

Police said the boy ran in front of a car and was hit around 10:40 p.m.. No word on the condition of the boy.

The accident remains under investigation.
